Over the years, Eastleigh Community Centre has been working towards making the living conditions of the slum dwellers better. This is through creating various social, political, economic and spiritual interventions.
The centre identifies critical issues that concern Mathare, Eastleigh,Kariobangi, Huruma and Korogocho communities and translate them into short and long-term program.
Based on the principle values and analysis of environment in the target area, ECC strives to achieve its vision and mission of empowerment for the vulnerable community members in the Kenyan society towards attaining sustainable livelihoods to lead responsible and dignified lifestyles.
The mandate,vision and mission of the centre are driven by the Christian concern of bringing hope to the hopeless and restoring a sense of worth to those who feel dejected and the marginalized in society. This is a recognition that slum dwellers are the best suited to initiate and sustain their own development.
The centre acts as a catalyst to facilitate and quicken the process of enhancing the living standards of the community. In addressing the strategic objectives and realizing the results, ECC facilitates and
support community development initiatives advanced by organized community groups. It also embraces the rights based Approach that seeks to empower the groups to demand their entitlements from those responsible to promote protect and offer them.
It recognizes the fact that communities must participate in all activities relating to their own development in order to promote a sustainable community development culture.
